Indigenous-led protest not backing down to save trees from Metrolinx construction A sacred fire has continued to burn for the last five months in the Mount Dennis neighbourhood as an Indigenous-led coalition continues to protest the construction of the Eglinton Crosstown West LRT. A plan to elevate a 1.5-kilometre portion of the transit line between Jane Street and Scarlett Road would see almost 1,500 trees cut down. A protest that began on a bitterly cold day back in January has now stretched into June and those fighting to save the trees say they are not about to back down. “It’s been good, there’s been rain and snow and sun but for the most part we are trying to be optimistic here,” said Jamie-Lee Mcquaig, one of those tending the sacred fire at Pearen Park. One by one every tree in jeopardy is being honoured and wrapped in ribbon while tipis have also been erected in strategic locations in an effort to block construction. “I think it has delayed the construction,” Neiland Brissenden of the Stop The Trains in our Parks coalition group t...

Cannabidiol on Craigslist?- What Websites Don’t Sell CBD Oil? To read the original article about Which Websites Don’t Sell CBD Oil, visit Real Tested CBD.The 2018 US Farm Bill may have legalized CBD products in the USA, but many retailers refuse to add this cannabinoid to their stores. New downtown San Jose mural celebrates Mexican heritage It’s hard to believe there was a time when San Jose’s walls were bereft of murals. There are so many downtown now that it’s hard to keep up with them all.The newest — for now, at least — is a colorful mural celebrating Mexican heritage and San Jose at the old Valley Title building at South First and San Carlos streets. Created by Artes Luis Fernandez Luna, who was born in Guadalajara, Mexico, the mural includes images of a cactus, an eagle and a heart — all symbols commonly found in Mexican art — as well as the sun graphic used in the City of San Jose logo. It was sponsored by Adobe and the San Jose Earthquakes, which is why the team’s logo is imprinted on the heart.“This has been a tremendous experience,” Luna, who has lived in San Jose for years, said in a statement. “I focus on remembering where I’m from but at the same time appreciating and mixing with the culture of San Jose.”His artwork was originally disp...

How the Thompson twins went from the East Bay to Overtime Elite to the NBA Draft

How the Thompson twins went from the East Bay to Overtime Elite to the NBA Draft OAKLAND – Amen and Ausar Thompson are trailblazers: The 20-year-old twins enter NBA Draft week all but ordained to become the first players ever drafted from the Overtime Elite developmental league. Mock drafts from around the basketball world have projected the brothers from San Leandro as top-10 picks. They aren’t prodigies, though, if longtime Bishop O’Dowd coach and East Bay hoops elder statesman Lou Richie is to be believed. “I never thought they would be the No. 3 and No. 5 picks in the NBA Draft, not at 11 or 12 years old,” Richie told the Bay Area News Group on Thursday afternoon. Richie trained the twins as preteens and he raved about their work ethic, a trait he said has remained unchanged even after the two moved to Florida before high school. Because they were not considered top players as children in the Bay Area, he said the two learned how to play within a team construct. The twins are now 6-foot-7 athletes, but their background as scrappy, focused players may b...
